We are not a commercial shelter, we are funded by ourselves and donations. We saved OVER 295 piggies in 2025! Note: We practice managed admissions. Shelters, Emergency and Stray admissions take priority. Owner surrenders are waitlisted until we have capacity and we also require a surrender fee. At this time the list is very long. We ask for a minimum commitment of one month. Before applying, please consider the responsibilities involved: Daily spot cleaning and full cage cleaning twice a week Spending time socializing and handling the guinea pigs Basic grooming when needed (such as nail trims) Ongoing health monitoring and, at times, administering medication Fostering takes dedication, but it’s incredibly rewarding and directly saves lives. Guinea Pigs for adoption, Guinea Pig rescue The Full Story Gardner's Pig Pen In 2015, I adopted my first guinea pig from the county shelter, I did everything wrong and after educating myself about them needing a friend I adopted two more (which eventually led to a herd of 10). Since then I have educated people randomly in pet stores, spread the joy of guinea pig ownership and then started fostering. 10 years later I am an all volunteer run 501(c)(3)and have over 75 Guinea Pigs in my care with the help of fosters. -Carolyn Mission Educate and expand awareness that Guinea Pigs aren't disposable, they need to live in pairs, live 5-8 years, need proper nutrition and vet care.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) ADOPTIONS What’s the adoption process? Submit an Adoption Form Read our Adoption Requirements and Shopping List before applying. Interview Call We'll schedule a quick call to discuss guinea pig care and cage setup. Pick Up Your Guinea Pig Once approved, we’ll coordinate a time for pickup. Do I need a new form if I’ve adopted before? If you adopted from us in the past post 8/31/24, you do not need to fill out a new adoption. Just reach out to us through the contact page. How do I find a buddy for my single guinea pig? Choose one or more guinea pigs from our list you’d like to try bonding with. Submit the adoption form. After the interview, bring your guinea pig to meet their potential friend(s) at the rescue or foster home. What if bonding doesn’t go well? Didn’t find a match? We can schedule another bonding session once more guinea pigs are available. Changed your mind? That’s okay! Let us know, and we can help you find a better fit. Bond fell apart at home? It’s normal to see chasing, rumbling, and light nipping for the first 1–2 weeks. But if there's serious aggression, injuries, or refusal to eat, separate them and contact us. We can try again with another guinea pig. How many guinea pigs can live together? Females can live in groups, as long as the cage meets size requirements (see next question for requirements). One “neutered” male can live with several females (“herd”). Multiple males can live together so long as they get along. Minimum cage sizes (C&C cages preferred): 2 pigs: 2X4 C&C (10.5 sq ft) Add 1 grid for each additional pig. You can purchase a cage from Tater Pets or Critter Colony Club or directly from us. What should I bring when picking up my guinea pig? One carrier per guinea pig (preferably hard-sided) If you’re doing a bonding visit, bring your own guinea pig(s) Include fleece/bedding + hay in the carrier Hot day? Bring a frozen water bottle in a sock to keep them cool Sick guinea pigs must reschedule bonding visits. We do a health check before bonding begins. DONATIONS + VOLUNTEERING How can I donate? EMERGENCY KIT Critical Care : recovery nutrition for piggies with poor nutritional status Baby gas drops (simethicone): treat gas and bloat 1ml Syringes without needle : use to administer medication Betadine Antiseptic or Bactine : use to clean wounds Betadine must be heavily diluted (ratio of 1 to 10 parts water) Bactine spray treats infection as well as reduces pain Antibiotic Ointment : to address infections and aide in healing Miconazole Shampoo : use to treat fungal infections and to soothe damaged skin Ivermectin : treats and prevents lice, mites and parasites Prevention: put one drop every 3 months on the flap of one ear Treatment: day 1 drop on ear, day 4 drop on ear, then once a week for 3 weeks Terramycin (antibiotic eye ointment): used for eye infections caused by bacteria Bene-bac probiotic : use to treat soft poops, health, especially after antibiotics dispense pea size amount in their mouth one to two times a day (separate doses by at least one hour) Styptic powder : to stop bleeding from caused by nail clipping dip nail in powder or apply powder to nail Small Animal Scale or Kitchen Scale : to weigh piggies regularly. Loss in weight indicates an illness.
